Know the Word. Think Biblically. Follow Christ.

Biblical teaching, theological reflection, pastoral answers, and resources for everyday discipleship.

Welcome to Pastor’s Corner

I’m glad you’re here. Whether you have followed Jesus for decades, are just beginning to read the Bible, or have questions you’re not quite sure how to ask, there is a place for you in this conversation.

Pastor’s Corner is an extension of my teaching ministry at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Here we will open Scripture, explore Christian doctrine, consider the questions life brings, and encourage one another to follow Jesus faithfully. You don’t need a seminary degree to join us. A Bible, an honest question, and a willingness to learn are a very good start.

My prayer is that these resources help you grow in the truth of God’s Word, the joy of knowing Christ, and the practice of loving and serving others.

— Dr. Jim Testerman, Pastor

Developing Faithful Bible Teachers

Healthy churches need faithful teachers. The Leadership Development Pathway grew out of my doctoral research in Expository Preaching and Teaching and a practical concern for Oak Grove: preparing believers to study, understand, and teach Scripture faithfully.

Identify → Train → Mentor → Evaluate → Deploy → Multiply

We seek to recognize biblical character, develop interpretive and teaching skills, provide relational guidance, offer constructive feedback, and give prepared teachers meaningful opportunities to serve. The goal is faithful people who can faithfully equip others (2 Timothy 2:2).

Know the Word.

Handle the Word faithfully.

Teach the Word clearly.

Entrust the Word to others.

Everything Begins with Jesus

Christian faith begins with what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. We were created to know and glorify God, but our sin has alienated us from Him. We cannot repair that relationship through religious effort or moral improvement. Jesus, the eternal Son of God, became truly human, lived without sin, died for sinners, and rose bodily from the dead. Through repentance and faith in Him, we receive forgiveness and new life by grace (John 1:14; Romans 3:23–26; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Ephesians 2:8–10).

That gospel shapes everything here.

We study Scripture to know the God who speaks.

We learn doctrine to worship Him rightly.

We develop teachers to serve His people.

We apply His Word because the Savior who forgives us also calls us to follow Him.

Our obedience is the fruit of His grace, never the price of His acceptance.

The question beneath every article is simple:

“How does this help us know Christ, follow Christ, and faithfully make Christ known?”
